Step-by-Step Casting Guide
1. Preparing the Mold
-
Select your silicone mold—this could be a tray, vessel, flower mold, or any decorative design.
-
Wash and dry the mold beforehand to make sure no dust or residue interferes with your pour.
-
Place the mold on a flat, stable surface so your piece cures evenly.
2. Mixing Ceramicast
-
Measure your Ceramicast powder into a mixing cup.
-
Add warm water gradually, stirring as you go, until the mixture reaches the consistency of pancake batter.
-
To add color:
-
Option 1: Mix pigment into the dry Ceramicast before adding water.
-
Option 2: Add pigment after water, stirring until smooth and even.
-
-
You can combine pigments to create your own custom colors.
3. Pouring Ceramicast
-
Slowly pour the mixture into your silicone mold.
-
Lightly tap the mold against your surface to help release any air bubbles.
-
Use a stir stick or small spatula to guide mixture into detailed areas of the mold if needed.
-
Allow the Ceramicast to cure for about 60 minutes.
4. Demolding
-
Once set, gently flex or peel back the silicone mold to release your piece.
-
Take your time—the edges are delicate until the piece fully hardens.
-
At this stage, you have a solid vessel, tray, or accent ready for finishing.
5. Creating Your Candle
-
If using a vessel or tray, apply Matte Sealer inside the piece to prevent wax seepage. Allow to dry for 30 minutes.
-
Melt Amy Howard at Home Beeswax in a glass measuring cup (microwave for ~3 minutes).
-
While melted, you can:
-
Add pigment powder to tint the wax.
-
Stir in essential oils (6–8 drops) for fragrance.
-
-
Place wick(s) inside the vessel using wick stickers.
-
Pour wax into the container slowly, keeping the wick centered.
-
Allow wax to cure and set for about 1 hour.
6. Decorating & Using
-
Cast wax accents like flowers by dusting molds with mica powder before pouring in pigmented wax.
-
Unmold wax accents after about 30 minutes.
-
To attach to candles: Warm the surface gently with a hairdryer until slightly soft, then press the wax flowers in place.
-
Style with dried flowers or gilding details for interest.
-
Finished vessels can be used for candles, diffusers, trays, or decorative accents.
