At Amy Howard at Home, we believe your home should feel like a jewel box—a thoughtfully curated space filled with depth, character, and beauty. After months of design work, hand-painting, and curating color palettes, we’re thrilled to officially launch the Amy Howard at Home Wallpaper Collection!
In this blog, Amy and Gene Howard gave us an exclusive look at the new wallpaper designs and shared a step-by-step guide for installing wallpaper—perfect for DIYers who want to transform their space with confidence.
Why This Wallpaper Collection is Special
Every pattern in the collection started as an original, hand-painted work of art. Amy designed these papers to complement her Manorborn Wall Paint Color Collection, ensuring each wallpaper coordinates effortlessly with our signature paint colors.
The collection includes:
-
Mini prints
-
Hand-drawn stripes
-
Textural designs with rich, layered finishes
-
Large-scale patterns like “Loop,” “Dash,” and “Boutique Damask”
🖌️ Each roll is double-width for more coverage and better value.
How to Select Your Wallpaper and Color Palette
Start by ordering your Wallpaper Memo Samples and your Manorborn Wall Paint Color Card.
Here’s what you’ll get:
✅ Three memo-sized wallpaper samples of your choice
✅ One full Manorborn wall paint color card (with actual painted swatches)
Amy’s Tip:
Choose a mix of scales when ordering your memo samples. Select a mini print, a larger pattern, and a stripe to start building your room’s look.
Essential Tools for Hanging Wallpaper
Gene Howard walked us through his must-have tools for wallpaper installation:
✔️ Strippable Wallpaper Paste (for easy future removal)
✔️ 3-inch Synthetic Trim Brush (Amy Howard at Home brush recommended for tight spaces and trim lines)
✔️ Medium Nap Roller (for smooth, even paste application)
✔️ Wallpaper Spreader / Smoother
✔️ Utility Knife with Replaceable Blades
✔️ Putty Knife (for trimming at edges)
✔️ Sponge and Water Bucket (for wiping off excess paste)
✔️ Level and Measuring Tape (for keeping everything straight)
✔️ Screwdriver (for removing outlet covers and switch plates)
✔️ Pencil (for marking alignment lines)
Step-by-Step: How to Hang Wallpaper
-
Prep the Walls:
Remove outlet covers and switch plates. Make sure your wall is clean, smooth, and dry. -
Mark Your Starting Line:
Use a level and pencil to create a straight vertical line where your first strip will go. -
Apply Paste to the Wall (Not the Paper):
Using the roller for large sections and your trim brush for edges and corners, apply a uniform, moderate layer of paste directly to the wall. -
Measure and Cut Your Wallpaper:
Pre-cut each strip, leaving a few extra inches at the top and bottom for trimming. -
Hang and Align:
Start at your line, carefully placing the paper onto the wall. Match the pattern at the seams. Most of our papers are movable when wet, giving you time to adjust alignment. -
Smooth Out Bubbles:
Use your wallpaper spreader to smooth the paper from the center outward. -
Wipe Away Excess Paste:
Gently wipe the surface and seams with a damp sponge. -
Trim Top and Bottom:
Use your putty knife as a guide and trim the excess paper along ceilings, baseboards, and corners. -
Repeat for Additional Panels:
Work one section at a time, only pasting as far as one panel width to avoid paste drying too quickly. -
Special Tip for Rounded Corners (Bullnose):
Decide whether to wrap the paper around the curve or leave a border. Gene recommends leaving a small painted reveal for a neat finish.
