Transform your outdated chandelier into a stunning, rustic centerpiece using Amy Howard's plaster products.
In this tutorial, we’ll walk through how to apply plaster to create a textured finish that gives your chandelier a beautifully aged appearance.
Materials Used:
- Caproni Plaster Wrap
- Venetian Plaster
- White Perfection Lacquer
- One Step Paint – Drama Queen
- Natural Bristle Brush
- Sandpaper
- Water Tray
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Plaster Wrap
Cut the Caproni Plaster Wrap into strips. Wet the strips in water and start wrapping them around the chandelier arms or candlesticks. Don’t worry about wrinkles—they add texture and authenticity to the piece.
2. Apply Plaster Wrap
Continue wrapping the plaster strips around the chandelier arms, pressing them down to adhere them properly. If desired, use an artist brush for more precision.
3. Mix Venetian Plaster
In a bowl, mix Venetian plaster with water until you achieve a thick, pancake batter-like consistency. For a thicker, more rustic application, mix slightly less water.
4. Apply Venetian Plaster
Using a natural bristle brush, apply the plaster to the chandelier arms or candlestick. Be sure to cover any exposed plaster wrap for a cohesive look. This step doesn’t need to be perfect—embrace the rustic charm!
5. Add Final Touches
Once the plaster is dry, you can lightly sand the surface to smooth out any rough patches or leave it as is for more texture. For added dimension, consider dry brushing One Step Paint – Drama Queen over the Venetian plaster to give a chippy, aged effect.
6. Optional Finish
Seal the plaster with White Perfection Lacquer for a glossy finish on select parts. You can also add wax or metallic touches for extra character.
This simple process gives any chandelier or candlestick a fresh, sophisticated look, perfect for adding French-inspired elegance to your home.
