Before: Mid Century Modern Dresser

After: Mid Century Modern Dresser

Amy recently rescued this classic Mid-Century Modern 9-drawer dresser at a local resale shop here in Memphis. Although the wood was worn and scratched pretty badly, she knew the job wasn’t too big for her favorite staple Amy Howard At Home product.

For this project we used:
1 can of Amy Howard At Home One Step Paint in Paige Blue
1 can of Amy Howard At Home One Step Paint in Ballet White
Amy Howard at Home Clean Slate
• Clean lint-free rag
• Painter’s tape
• 2 – 4” foam brushes

STEP 1:

Pull out the drawers and remove any hardware that is easy to unscrew. Make sure to keep them in a safe place!

STEP 2:

Clean all of the surfaces, including the hardware, with your Amy Howard at Home Clean Slate and clean lint-free rag.

STEP 3:

Tape off all of the edges including hardware and the interior wood line. This step is often overlooked, but very crucial to the quality of the finished appearance.

STEP 4:

Start Painting! Using a clean Amy Howard Home 2″ flat brush, start with a thin bottom coat in each color. Allow the paint to fully dry between coats. Two coats of each color are generally needed for full coverage. We chose to make the 6 side drawers pop with a lighter color. Their slightly recessed setting made it easy to determine which area should be the accent.

STEP 5:

Allow time for the last layer of paint to fully dry, then gently remove the painter’s tape.

STEP 6:

Put your drawers and clean hardware back in place. No stripping, priming or sanding was needed. Just a few brush strokes later and you have a brand new beautiful dresser that is sure to make everyone swoon!

Enjoy the bragging rights!
