I really can't rate the product fairly. It didn't work like I'd hoped it would, but then neither did any of the other penetrating type stains that I tried. What did finally work was a stain-and-poly product. I think the problem was partly that I'm an amateur, and partly that the wood (quarter & live sawn oak), had a very pronounced grain. The stains were readily absorbed by the grain but nowhere else. However, I plan to use the gel stain on another project. The wood grain is much less pronounced (poplar, maybe) and I think the gel stain will work much better.
I love the way the gel spreads and goes such a long way. It looks like a dark brown instead of black. Has a nice rich look to it. Easy to use. I would definitely recommend to a friend.
I put one thick coat on and let sit about 5 min. Then wiped off. It gave it a nice darker brown I was looking for. Hardly used any of the container I bought.
I loved the ease of using the Embossing Gel underneath the Party on the Grove Milk Paint, the texture and rich colors are so elegant!

I love working with the gel stain. This piece was a dated red stain that didn’t work the rest of the room. Used two coats is Kensington Black and Matte Sealer. The blue is Amy Howard’s Mai Dragon. A pleasure to work with these products.

I LOVED this stain. I was able to turn a seemingly irredeemable wall into a modern touch. I LOVE how it looks now. I went with one coat because I want elements of the wood to show through like in the example photo. I wasn’t really going for a jet black look. This wall was a lot of work, mostly because of the amount of sanding that needed to take place first, but this wall only took about 3 and 1/2 jars. I am very proud of this portion of my renovation. This probably took about 20 hours total.
I mixed the black gel stain, gray gel stain and glazed over. I used the glaze on a headboard to achieve an aged silver finish. It is so easy to work with and smells amazing!
I absolutely love the color and sheen this gel stain adds to my pieces. The ability to mix with other stains and colors and it’s easy use and application make this product amazing!
