I received my paint but due to the cold weather I haven’t been able to paint. Love the color, just wish it was a little bit darker.

About One Step Paint
One Step Paint is our premium, water-based chalk-style furniture paint that transforms furniture, fabric, and everything in between. No stripping, no sanding, no priming. It dries to a soft, chalky matte finish that's perfect for vintage, distressed, layered, and Old World looks. While decorative pieces don't require sealing, we recommend adding a wax or sealer on high-use items like dining tables, chairs, and cabinets to protect against everyday wear.
- Clean thoroughly with Clean Slate to remove all dirt, wax, silicone, furniture polish, oils, and grease.
- Using a brush, roller, or sprayer, apply your first thin, even coat of One Step Paint. Use long, clean strokes, painting with the grain, and avoid applying too much paint at once.
- Allow the first coat to dry completely, about 1 hour, before adding another coat.
- Apply additional thin coats until you reach your desired coverage. Remember, several thin coats create a stronger, smoother, more beautiful finish than one heavy coat.
- Once dry, enjoy your soft, chalky matte finish as-is, or protect high-use pieces with Matte Sealer, Light Wax, or Dark Wax.
Remove and mark any hardware from your piece. Clean thoroughly with Clean Slate to remove all dirt, wax, silicone, furniture polish, oils, and grease. Repair any cracks or holes with wood filler. A clean surface allows One Step Paint to bond properly and creates a longer-lasting finish.
Allow approximately 1 hour of dry time between coats. Once your final coat is dry, your piece is ready to enjoy as-is with its soft, chalky matte finish, or protect it further with Matte Sealer, Light Wax, or Dark Wax.
One Step Paint works beautifully on wood, cabinetry, laminate, melamine, Formica, glass, resin, concrete, metal, stone, and previously painted furniture. It's also the only Amy Howard At Home paint suitable for fabric and upholstery.

One Step Paint FAQ
One Step Paint is a chalk-style, calcium-carbonate paint designed to create antique beauty without stripping, sanding, priming, or sealing. Simply clean your surface, apply the paint, and let it dry. It delivers rich color and a flat matte finish that can be left as-is or layered with waxes, glazes, milk paint, or specialty finishes.
One Step Paint adheres beautifully to a wide variety of surfaces including wood, laminate, melamine, Formica, glass, resin, concrete, iron, stone, and previously painted furniture. It’s also suitable for outdoor furniture and décor when properly sealed for exterior use.
Yes—One Step Paint is the only Amy Howard at Home paint formulated for upholstery and fabric. Find tutorials on our blog or on our YouTube channel.
Sealing is not required for decorative pieces, but for furniture that will receive daily use—such as tables, chairs, cabinets, or upholstery—we recommend sealing with wax or another appropriate topcoat to protect the finish and extend durability.
One Step Paint contains essential oils, giving it a pleasant, low-odor scent compared to traditional paints. This makes it more enjoyable to use indoors and in smaller spaces.
Yes. One Step Paint is a water-based, low-VOC decorative paint, making it a more environmentally friendly choice for home DIY projects and indoor furniture refinishing.
Surface prep is simple—just clean thoroughly with a degreaser like Clean Slate to remove dirt, oils, or residue. No stripping, sanding, or priming is required in most cases unless repairing damage or creating a distressed finish.
One Step Paint is incredibly versatile and is often used as a base layer for milk paint finishes, waxed surfaces, stenciling, glazing, cracked patina looks, gilding, and layered Old-World furniture techniques. It’s ideal for creating everything from subtle patina to dramatic heirloom-style pieces.
While both are easy-to-use, all-in-one paints, they’re designed for different finishes and surfaces.
One Step Paint offers a flat matte, chalky finish ideal for vintage and distressed looks. It’s great for furniture, décor, and even upholstery (the only paint in our line safe for fabric). It's best when you want to layer, wax, or create a more aged, textured appearance.
Miracle Paint, on the other hand, dries to a smooth, satin finish that’s self-sealing and ultra-durable—perfect for high-traffic surfaces like cabinets, doors, and countertops. It’s self-leveling and designed to minimize brush strokes, making it ideal for a sleek, modern look that holds up beautifully over time.

The color is beautiful and as any AH One Step, it smells so pretty. I love the matte finish that the paint has.

Beautiful background on my cachepot. Painted the metal, no problem!

Good quality paint, but disappointed in the shade. It is described as darkest forest gree. It's not, it's more of a darker sage.

The cabinet looks fabulous with this paint color! The paint is easy to work with and I would definitely buy more paint in different colors.

I found this 80 year-old hope chest at an estate sale, my DIL has been looking for one for a while. It had major water damage on the bottom, it all had to be pulled off and remade. Once that was done, I aged it with nails, chain and hammer effects. My DIL chose the Chambourg color and my goodness, it is a stunning color!! We finished it woth the glazed over and she is over the moon about her new hope chest!! Thanks again for such amazing products, this is my 3rd refinish project using your products!!!

Was such a doable project for me and a big change to and otherwise boring, plain, wood buffet. Love it and had so many compliments.

This deep green has become a go to color for me. It works amazing and really is a stand out!

This was my very first experience painting furniture, and using an Amy Howard product. It could not have gone any better on this piece that was gifted to me. The ease of the One Step paint and the pleasant smell made it so fun, and addicting, that I've now done (and am doing) more pieces! The color Cherborg is classic and timeless and getting all kinds of compliments. Thank you Amy Howard!

This is Cherberg before adding wax and or Amy’s glaze. Nice solid green but not bright.

I can’t say enough good about this paint! Amazing quality, easy to apply and the finish…perfect! Perfect pop of color to update our kids bathroom!

Used this green to update the fabric of antique chairs. The outcome is amazing. I love that it feels almost like a very soft leather. Seems more durable and more waterproof.

I haven’t used this on my chairs yet (which is what I bought this green for), but I have done some matting for frames to see the color and I love it!

This green reminds me of the classroom chalkboard from my childhood. I used it on this Prayer Board (stencil from A Maker's Studio) because it's meant to be written on with chalk. Not only is the color perfect, it went on so smoothly and covered well in 2 coats. I used Amy Howard's 4" foam roller and roller handle.

This is the perfect color for my Christmas trees!

My first time using Amy Howard. The paint was so easy to work with. My daughter and I painted this dresser for her nursery. Ordering new hardware. The finish was beautiful!

Love this green! I painted over of our first wood furniture piece we bought together when newlyweds. It's almost been 13 years, after two kids, and now in quarantine I needed a change. I wanted to bring nature inside our home, with leafy like colors and light brown wood accents. If you're thinking of getting this, just do it. This color is the perfect green, it's natural and makes any piece happily beautiful.
