English Boxwood is a rich, dark green that embodies the timeless allure of traditional greenery.
About One Step Paint
One Step Paint is our premium, water-based chalk-style paint that transforms furniture, fabric, and everything in between. No stripping, no sanding, no priming. It dries to a soft, chalky matte finish that's perfect for vintage, distressed, layered, and Old World looks. While decorative pieces don't require sealing, we recommend adding a wax or sealer on high-use items like dining tables, chairs, and cabinets to protect against everyday wear.
Clean thoroughly with Clean Slate to remove all dirt, wax, silicone, furniture polish, oils, and grease.
Using a brush, roller, or sprayer, apply your first thin, even coat of One Step Paint. Use long, clean strokes, painting with the grain, and avoid applying too much paint at once.
Allow the first coat to dry completely, about 1 hour, before adding another coat.
Apply additional thin coats until you reach your desired coverage. Remember, several thin coats create a stronger, smoother, more beautiful finish than one heavy coat.
Remove and mark any hardware from your piece. Clean thoroughly with Clean Slate to remove all dirt, wax, silicone, furniture polish, oils, and grease. Repair any cracks or holes with wood filler. A clean surface allows One Step Paint to bond properly and creates a longer-lasting finish.
Allow approximately 1 hour of dry time between coats. Once your final coat is dry, your piece is ready to enjoy as-is with its soft, chalky matte finish, or protect it further with Matte Sealer, Light Wax, or Dark Wax.
One Step Paint works beautifully on wood, cabinetry, laminate, melamine, Formica, glass, resin, concrete, metal, stone, and previously painted furniture. It's also the only Amy Howard At Home paint suitable for fabric and upholstery.

Yes—One Step Paint is the only Amy Howard at Home paint formulated for upholstery and fabric. Find tutorials on our blog or on our YouTube channel.
Sealing is not required for decorative pieces, but for furniture that will receive daily use—such as tables, chairs, cabinets, or upholstery—we recommend sealing with wax or another appropriate topcoat to protect the finish and extend durability.
One Step Paint contains essential oils, giving it a pleasant, low-odor scent compared to traditional paints. This makes it more enjoyable to use indoors and in smaller spaces.
Yes. One Step Paint is a water-based, low-VOC decorative paint, making it a more environmentally friendly choice for home DIY projects and indoor furniture refinishing.
Surface prep is simple—just clean thoroughly with a degreaser like Clean Slate to remove dirt, oils, or residue. No stripping, sanding, or priming is required in most cases unless repairing damage or creating a distressed finish.
One Step Paint is incredibly versatile and is often used as a base layer for milk paint finishes, waxed surfaces, stenciling, glazing, cracked patina looks, gilding, and layered Old-World furniture techniques. It’s ideal for creating everything from subtle patina to dramatic heirloom-style pieces.
While both are easy-to-use, all-in-one paints, they’re designed for different finishes and surfaces.
One Step Paint offers a flat matte, chalky finish ideal for vintage and distressed looks. It’s great for furniture, décor, and even upholstery (the only paint in our line safe for fabric). It's best when you want to layer, wax, or create a more aged, textured appearance.
Miracle Paint, on the other hand, dries to a smooth, satin finish that’s self-sealing and ultra-durable—perfect for high-traffic surfaces like cabinets, doors, and countertops. It’s self-leveling and designed to minimize brush strokes, making it ideal for a sleek, modern look that holds up beautifully over time.
I liked the quality of the paint but was disappointed with the color. I thought the color I selected was a darker shade of green. Luckily it still matches my wallpaper. It is a pretty green. I might need another can to complete my project, will order it if I do. I still have 1 nightstand to paint. I can covered 2 coats for 1 nightstand and 4 dresser drawers (first coat), so that was pretty good.
Ty,

I painted the outside of a Sligh antique dresser and replaced the original small knobs with white ceramic knobs having a trout image. The project was made easy by using paint from Amy Howard. I love the color!
Love this paint! So easy to apply and absolutely no unpleasant smell. The color is beautiful! Although I've only had time to do one section of my cabinets, I can't wait to finish them all. So happy with how the color came out and I will definitely be purchasing more paint from them. I haven't used the sealer yet so I can't review that yet but I'm sure it's an excellent product also!

beautiful, thank you so much!
First time user of this product. Im a entry level DYIer, I Love the products. Easy to use, the color and texture of the paint is luxurious and creamy when applied. I was so impressed with how easy it was to revamp my vintage piece!
My wife bought Blenko hourglass made in the 1970’s. Some had painted over the original green with latex paint. When originally made they were painted with chalk paint and highlighted with wax. I used your one step paint, light and dark waxes to bring the piece back to its original beauty. The final touch was adding the guiding wax to make the spindles pop. All were awesome products. Glad I watched your videos too. It made the project so much easier.
Bought the paint for my mother’s old dresser and bed. It brought new life to my furniture.so easy to use I would highly recommend the paint for a project. Thank you so much
I painted my guest bathroom vanity and love this paint. I painted 2 coats of English Boxwood. I sealed it with Amy Howard Matte sealer. I wall papered with a wall paper that was white background with vines and flowers. The pattern is Jacobean. We also but up beadboard and trim boards, all painted white. Very happy with the outcome. Your paint is great. Thank you.
I first chose English Boxwood green to paint a kitchen hutch. I was in love with the color! Since this was my first experience with amy Howard at Home paint I got the sample size first. I was very impressed with results on my practice board and started painting the doors. I am impressed with how little paint it took because it goes on so smoothly. Alas, I realized it was the wrong color for the piece, so I switched to Linen and have had rave reviews from family and friends.
I decided to paint my living room end tables this gorgeous green color and I can't tell you how happy I am with the result!!! I feel like I got new furniture!
The paint is a great color and goes on easily. Two coats at least needed. I have followed instructions closely and used the cleaner and also beeswax after painting. Always left 24 hours between cleaning, paint coats and waxing. Looks good. I am concerned about long term resilience of finish as just catching the paint surface can chip paint off very easily.
Love this paint! I found this product line specifically because I was searching online for a beautiful green and I found this. I get so many compliments on my projects when I use this paint.
English Boxwood is the nicest green, and covered so well that I only needed one coat. This old occasional table was literally a roadside find, covered with layers of old paint, and it looks like something new and precious.
I did a base/single coat of boxwood and then mixed a small amount of it with an even smaller amount of white paint, and then drybrushed that for an antique look. Then used copper gilding wax for a final touch.
This paint dried fast, when on thick and smooth, and as an added bonus it smells great!
Love this color!! It was just what I was hoping for and perfect for my sons’ dresser. The paint went on pretty easily. I did have to do two coats but still have quite a bit of paint left over. And this paint smells good! Even after drying it still has a faint, pleasant smell.
