STRASBOURG WHITE is a soft chalk white, pure as plastered walls in an old European cathedral town. Clean yet timeless, this shade brings old world French elegance to furniture and decor, perfect as a refreshing standalone finish or layered into soft, sun-washed patinas.
About Toscana Milk Paint
Toscana Milk Paint transforms furniture, cabinetry, and decor into beautiful pieces rich with old world appeal. This all-natural powder mixes with water to create an authentic, layered patina, no sanding or stripping required on raw wood. Pigments are sourced from Italy and the South of France for a superior finish, color, and vibrancy. Must be sealed with wax or Matte Sealer to complete the finish. As with all Toscana Milk Paint colors, expect natural variation based on mixing technique, surface texture, and finishing choices, that variation is exactly what gives each piece its own one-of-a-kind patina.
Toscana Milk Paint uses an easy one part powder to one part water ratio for a smooth, creamy consistency. Mix with water, strain through gauze to remove any clumps or foam, and your paint is ready to use. Apply with a natural bristle chip brush, working on a horizontal surface for the best results. Use it as-is, thin it for a glazed patina effect, or layer multiple coats for rich, antique depth.
Toscana Milk Paint doesn't require a primer when applying it to raw wood, since it binds naturally. If you'd like to add a tinted base before painting raw wood, our Gel Stain works well for that, though it isn't required for adhesion. However, if you're painting over slick, finished, or previously painted surfaces, you must prime with One Step Paint first to ensure proper adhesion.
Protect and complete your finish with wax or our Matte Sealer, this step is required to seal in your color and protect your piece for everyday use.
For the signature old world finish, start with the right base for your surface, Gel Stain for raw wood, or One Step Paint for slick or previously finished surfaces. Add a layer of Cracked Gesso for that signature cracked, textured look, then apply your first coat of milk paint. From there, layer on Antiquing Glaze, followed by light wax, dark wax, and finally Dust of Ages for rich, dimensional patina. Milk paint is especially beautiful on carved furniture, bergere chairs, and ornate frames, where this layered technique settles into texture and detail.

Pigments from Italy & France
Beginner Friendly
33 Colors
All Natural, Zero VOC
Just five natural ingredients: milk protein, limestone, clay, chalk, and pigment. No VOCs, no harmful solvents, no synthetic fillers, just a simple, water-based formula that's safe to use anywhere in your home.
Our pigments are flown in directly from quarries in Provence, France, real, natural pigments with color variation you simply can't get from synthetic alternatives. That authentic Old World sourcing is what gives Toscana Milk Paint its unmatched depth and vibrancy.
Milk paint shines on pieces with detail, think carved furniture, bergere chairs, ornate frames, and anything where you want the finish to settle into texture and bring out fine craftsmanship. The natural variation of color play beautifully against carved lines and raised detail.
Start with a base coat of gel stain, One Step Paint, or Milk Paint Binder, depending on your surface. Add a layer of Cracked Gesso for that signature cracked, textured look, then apply your first coat of milk paint. From there, layer on Antiquing Glaze, followed by light wax, dark wax, and finally Dust of Ages for rich, dimensional patina.
Toscana Milk Paint doesn't require a primer when applying it to raw wood, since it binds naturally. Yes. While it was originally formulated for raw wood, it works beautifully on ceramic, glass, and metal too. Use One Step Paint as your base coat, or mix in Milk Paint Binder for adhesion, no extra sealing needed.
Start by cleaning your surface thoroughly with Clean Slate to remove any wax, oils, or residue. For raw wood, no priming is needed...just mix, strain, and paint. For finished or slick surfaces, apply One Step Paint or mix in the Toscana Milk Paint Binder with your milk paint before painting.
Unmixed Milk Paint powder stores indefinitely when kept in an airtight, dry container, so you can mix only what you need for each project. Once mixed with water, use it within 1 to 2 weeks, stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Sealing is required for Milk Paint, since the finish is porous by nature. Lock it in with Light Wax, Dark Wax, or the wax of your choice or our Matte Sealer.
A single 12oz pouch of Toscana Milk Paint generally covers approximately 17 to 24 square feet, mixed at the standard 1:1 powder to water ratio. Coverage will vary depending on how thick you mix it and your color choice, lighter colors often need 2 to 3 coats for full opacity, while darker colors may only need 1 to 2.

Store owner replied: thanks so much! So glad you love it
I always love my AH products. The milk paints are beautiful. I mix my Strausburg White with other paints to tint them. The service is awesome, too.

Excellent product! Our beautiful Amish made dry sink needed an update, so we chose Amy Howard's milk paint, and we are very pleased! I even called with some questions and a very nice woman helped me. I decided to use 3 coats and then used their antiquing wax to finish it. It brought out some wonderful depth to the color. We also purchased One Step as well for other projects, more to be said once we complete. Great company, keep up the good work!

I loved all the products I bought. The one step is amazing.. haven’t got to use a lot of the milk paint, but I’m sure it is an amazing product as well.. I love the waxes and the matte finish. I will definitely order again.

This was my first time using milk paints on an actual piece of furniture and the S. White was a dream to work with! It is so versatile and can be blended with other colors to make your own custom color, as I did with this dresser. It can also be used with the cracked gesso to make a chippier finish, or without for a smooth and silky finish. I went for the old Gustavian style using cracked gesso with this one.

This is my absolute favorite go to milk paint now. I have made my own, used well known brands, even smaller brands but nothing compares to the smooth authentic finish you get with this milk paint! Also the white is a nice bright white vs an off white like a lot of others. Used on my antique mahogany table (base & white washed the top) with Strasbourg white. ❤️Love!

beautiful milk paint - I used Noir and White milk paint to find the colors that go with my house. The frames were gold when I found them.
